Ashlar House is home to 8 adults who have autistic spectrum disorders. The home is situated in north Leeds and has easy access to a range of local facilities including shops, pubs, cafes, churches and sports centre. The service is accredited by the National Autistic Society. All service users have individual service user plans based on a person centred approach, and are allocated a named key-worker.
The philosophy of the home is based on Christian principles but the organisation recognises its responsibility to support all service users in meeting their preferred spiritual needs. Staffing ratios are above the required minimum standard and staff are trained to support the specific needs of people with autism. Two staff sleep in each night and a designated person is always 'on call'. All service users have individual lockable rooms which are furnished and fitted out to suit the lifestyle and taste of each person. All are fitted with wash hand basins. The home is spacious and comprises of a comfortable tv lounge, large dining room (though some prefer to eat in their room), an exercise room and a quiet room. There is also a training kitchen for those wishing to develop cooking skills. We recognise the importance of maintaining significant relationships and service users can have visitors at any reasonable time. An overnight guest room is available where appropriate. All service users are encouraged and supported at regular meetings in making decisions regarding the day-to-day running of the home. Feedback is also sought regarding the level of satisfaction of the service. The service has a quality action group which includes relatives representation. Criteria for Admission Only local authority referrals will be considered. Individuals must be over 18 years of age and have a diagnosis within the autistic spectrum. The home does not provide nursing care. Applications will be processed in accordance with the home's admissions policy. (Current vacancies: Nil)
